Dedicated FSID supporters Kath and Phil Burton are currently embarking on a “30thon”- a series of events and activities in memory of their daughter Julia in what would have been her 30th birthday year.
Julia was born on August 16, 1977, and the family is running events throughout the month to keep her memory alive whilst raising vital funds for FSID. It is set to become a real family affair. As Kath says, "It is a brilliant way to combine raising money, having fun and keeping Julia an everyday part of the family.”
Kath is swimming for 30 minutes one day, running for 30 minutes the next and cycling for 30 minutes the day after throughout August and hopes to cover about 80 miles- roughly the distance from York to Scarborough and back again. By doing so, she will be following in the footsteps of her husband, Phil, and nephew, David Long who cycled the distance in aid of FSID last year.
Their daughter, Hazel, 26, is giving up tea and cake for 30 days and Kath's niece Rosie Barrett, 13, has pledged to dance for 30 minutes non-stop. What is more, Kath's nephew's daughter, Evie May Long, who is only 22 months old, is also going to help out by doing 30 jumps.
The Burtons, who have two grown-up daughters, have already raised in excess of £40,000 for FSID having begun a family fundraising campaign following the sudden and unexpected death of Julia in 1978 when she was just seven and a half months old.
Their previous fundraising events have included car boot sales, teddy tombolas, a sponsored marathon and even a parachute jump. They are some of FSID's most valuable supporters and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their years of dedication and support.
If you would like to help the Burton family smash their target by sponsoring them they can be contacted directly on 01904 620624 or you can visit their fundraising page: www.justgiving.com/30thon to make a donation to the appeal.
