Celebrity support

Celebrity support

Many well-known faces support our work. Here are just a few people you may recognise who have helped raise awareness and funds.

Angela Griffin, Actress

Former Waterloo Road actress Angela Griffin is FSID's celebrity patron, and is fronting this year's Save a Baby Month appeal in May.

“Sudden Infant Death is every new parent’s worst fear. As a mother myself I am a strong supporter of the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths’ vital work to prevent the tragedy of cot death and support families who have endured the agony of losing a baby.”

Lorraine Kelly, Presenter

Presenter Lorraine Kelly has been touched by many of the stories of the families she has interviewed. Lorraine is once again supporting this year's Save a Baby Month campaign.

Paula Radcliffe, Athlete

As well as a top athlete, Paula Radcliffe is also a mother, and well aware of the anguish parents feel about cot death.

“Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and healthy environment. I am proud to support FSID's efforts to prevent sudden infant death,” says athlete and mother Paula Radcliffe, who also supports our work.

Colin Baker, Actor

Actor and writer Colin Baker has been an FSID trustee since 1989, after the sudden death of his son Jack in 1983.

Annabel Karmel, Author

Children's cookbook author, Annabel Karmel, lost her first child, Natasha, when she was just 13 weeks old. Natasha died suddenly from encephalitis - an infection that spread to her brain.

"I think mothers need a lot of support after the loss of a child. It has to be one of the most traumatic things that can happen to anyone and it is very hard to carry on with a normal life."

Annabel wrote her first book, The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner as a legacy to Natasha, and feels that this is something good that has come from her short life. "Without Natasha I would never have written my books." See www.annabelkarmel.com for more details.

Charlotte BellamyCharlotte Bellamy, Actress

Charlotte Bellamy plays Laurel Thomas, a cot death parent, in ITV’s Emmerdale. On finding out about the SIDS storyline that took place earlier this year, Charlotte was very concerned to ensure she portrayed a parent’s reactions and emotions as accurately as possible. We put Charlotte in touch with a number of real-life parents who had experienced the tragedy of a cot death, and she was so moved by their strength and willingness to talk about their experiences that she decided to become more involved with FSID.
