Moonlight Colourthon 2008

Moonlight Colourthon 2008

On Saturday 5th July 2008 Amy Blackwood-Sewell and Sam Phelps took part in the Southend Round Table Moonlight Colourthon 2008 in memory of Amy’s brother Ben Sewell.

The object of this enchanting nocturnal fundraiser was to walk a half marathon (13.1 miles) at night and to dress as brightly and colourfully as possible! In Amy’s own words:

“It was a beautiful evening, clear and starry skies and a great atmosphere among all the walkers…it was a good experience all round.”

This year’s event began in Chalkwell Park, taking walkers along Southend Seafront and Westcliffe’s picturesque cliff tops. “I was surprised how scenic the route was” says Amy, remembering how her and the other walkers were treated to various views of the famous pleasure pier, the exclusive Chalkwell Estate and Old Leigh, with its quaint cottages and fishermen’s sheds.

Sam and Amy completed the 13 mile walk in just under 3 and a half hours and raised a fantastic £450.

FSID would like to thank Amy and Sam for their wonderful support of our vital cause.
