Lisa Lovatt-Sutton writes about her conference experience as an FSID befriender

My memories of my first SIDS conference will always hold a very special place for me. I was slightly apprehensive, not knowing quite what to expect. What I was to discover was an incredible feeling of unity, support and belonging. So many people attending from so many countries, all in search of the same answers. How do we solve the tragic mystery of our babies dying and how do we continue to prevent this catastrophic senseless waste of precious lives?

I am sure everybody who attended this conference felt that we are moving forward in a very positive way, sharing research and information across the globe. As a bereaved parent myself, I was thrilled and amazed by the sort of research that is currently going on.

The social side was very entertaining, ending with a party on board HMS Warrior, a wonderful evening where everyone really entered into the spirit of things!(we should have been warned that we would need the help of climbing equipment to get to the ladies loo!!!).

The service in the cathedral was extremely moving, especially the building of the cairn in remembrance of each baby that has died. A tribute to all our precious children we have lost and with them a part of ourselves too.

I was impressed by the whole scale and organisation of this conference. I would like to say a massive thanks to Ann Deri-Bowen for making this awesome event actually happen, also to everyone involved in everyway in contributing to the huge success of this event.
