Helpline 

 FSID offers a unique Helpline to anyone who:  

  • has experienced the sudden death of a baby 
  • is a professional involved with a bereaved family 
  • is a friend or family member of someone whose baby has died 
  • is worried about cot death  

The Helpline is answered personally by specially trained advisors from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday. 

From 6pm to 11pm every day calls are answered by trained befrienders who are themselves bereaved parents. 

The information you give will be kept confidential. 

The Helpline is for you if: 

  • your baby has died suddenly and unexpectedly and you want someone to talk to, someone to listen, someone to help answer your questions and give you information
  • you are a relative of the bereaved family, and you want to talk or you need information on cot death
  • you are a friend, neighbour, or work colleague of a bereaved parent, and want advice about how to help 
  • you are a professional supporting a cot death family, or are involved in any way with a family eg health visitor, GP, paediatrician, police officer, social worker, ambulance staff, A&E nurse, coroner's officer etc
  • you are a carer eg childminder, nanny, nursery nurse, babysitter, and a baby you were looking after died suddenly and unexpectedly  
  • you are worried about your own baby, or are concerned about cot death for other reasons 
  • you are a professional and want information about reducing the risk of cot death and safe baby care
