Having decided that she wanted to do something “a bit different” to celebrate her 21st birthday, Kayleigh Freer, accompanied by her Uncle Keith and boyfriend Nick, took up the somewhat nerve-wracking challenge of doing a charity skydive in aid of FSID in memory of her brother, Ashley David Freer, who died of cot death 19 years ago.
Here Kayleigh describes the experience in her own words:
“On the 15th September, my uncle Keith and my boyfriend Nick and I went to the Skydive UK Ltd centre at Dunkeswell Airfield, near Honiton where we were to jump from 15,000 feet as a tandem parachute jump.
The weather was fantastic and after my initial nerves during the plane ride, the instructor that I was harnessed to flung us from the plane and I enjoyed every second of it. The free fall lasted for 10,000 feet at 120mph before the parachute was opened and we landed safely on the ground, just 5 minutes after leaving the plane. My first thoughts were that I wanted to go back up and do it again as it was over so quickly.
With the help of our family and friends, we have managed to raise £521.50 in memory of Ashley for FSID which we are thrilled about. Many thanks to everyone that sponsored us, to Skydive UK Ltd and for the support of those working for the charity also, it is definitely something we will never forget doing!”
FSID would like to thank Kayleigh, Keith and Nick for their bravery and hard work in aid of our cause.
