No Pain, No Gain

No Pain, No Gain

On Monday 14th May 2007, Daniel Bradley bravely volunteered to have his legs waxed in aid of FSID at Wildern School in Southampton.

Here he describes his experience and reasons for doing so:

“Before I was born my parents suffered considerably following the death of my brother Joe. The event left them in extreme grief, as you would expect after such a shock. However, both my mother and father received great support from FSID, such as counselling and help from others that had suffered similarly, which helped them to come to terms with their loss. The support that they received almost 18 years ago was the key reason behind my decision to raise the funds for the charity so that other families may receive the same support and help that my parents were lucky to have access to.

The idea behind the leg waxing was mainly for the comedy value, to entertain my friends and sponsors and give them something in return for their donation. It was also something I could do for free to ensure that all of the donations could be sent to the charity.

I (painfully) completed the aforementioned task, after being kindly allowed to hold the event at my then school, Wildern Secondary in Hedge End, Southampton. This allowed my friends, who made up around half of the sponsors, to witness the event and be with me through my pain. Overall it was something which I somehow managed to enjoy and I also raised £136 thanks to my kind sponsors, and their love of pain!”

FSID would like to thank Daniel for his bravery in support of our cause as well as all those who sponsored him.
