School fundraising week
Over a week in May, Mill Mead School in Hertfordshire sold cakes for 48p, ran a daily 48p raffle and played a ‘guess the sweets in the jar’ game in memory of Thierry Latrai Allman, the baby of Fleur Dell and Andrew Allman, who passed away on 11th February 2007 aged six months.
The events culminated in a coffee morning at the end of a busy week of fundraising when Thierry’s big sister Mercedes, age seven, who attends the school in Port Vale, planted a tree in memory of her brother.
Thanking pupils, including Jasmine Curtis, age 11, and Lilly Boden, 10, for their efforts, Fleur said:
“They were absolutely brilliant in what has been a very difficult time for us.
Parents have been very supportive at a time when I know it’s not easy to know what to say, and the children didn’t know about cot death but they worked really hard.”
Head teacher Sue Nesbitt-Larking praised all the pupils and Lilly and Jasmine, the school’s charity officer, in particular for going “above and beyond the call of duty.”
She said:
“We are a strong community school and the parents’ association came up with the idea of planting a tree in Thierry’s memory.
Then Fleur and Andy came to the school wanting to raise money for the charity. We came up with the idea of having a week of raising money.”
The school raised £387 which is enough for a baby heart monitor, whilst also raising awareness of SIDS amongst the children, parents and teachers.
FSID passes on its thanks to Fleur and Andrew, and all who supported them, for their hard work for our cause.
