New research published online today (24/1/07) reveals that advice on how to reduce the risk of cot death needs to be heeded just as much for an infant’s day-time naps as it is for their night-time sleep. This not only includes the advice that babies should be placed on their back to sleep, but also that they should sleep in the same room as their parents or another adult during the day.

 

New brainstem research adds to understanding of SIDS

On 1 November 2006, new research findings were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that shed new light on a possible vulnerability to SIDS in certain babies. FSID’s scientific advisor, George Haycock, says that, while the new findings are important, they are unlikely to be the only risk factor.
